Web. 2.0 Tools - By: Yvette Sands

My name is Yvette Sands and this website was created as part of my Design and Development Tools II course at the University of South Carolina. This site explains and demonstrates a useful Web 2.0 tool. Web 2.0 tools are internet technologies that make it easy to use and create online applications. I chose to discuss  the Web 2.0 tool, Jing. Jing is a screen capture application created by the TechSmith Corporation. The application allows users to capture pictures and record video and audio from a screen. The free version of Jing allows users to record up to five minutes of video. The picture  or video can be saved on a computer  or it can be upload to the web. If it is uploaded to the web, an URL is created and the content can  be shared with others. The basic version of Jing is free and does include several features such as the ability to add text to screen captures and videos.

What is Jing?

How do I access Jing?

Jing demonstration - Business Computer Applications

I used Jing to create a short tutorial for my Business Computer Applications Course. The application is useful because it allows me record step by step instructions about how to complete tasks in Microsoft Excel. My students can replay the video as many times as they wish. I also created a screen capture of an Excel Spreadsheet. I used the drawing tools in Jing to highlight different parts of spreadsheet.

Jing is very beneficial because it allows me to create a web link  to the material that I create in the tool. I am able to send the link to my students so that they can review the information.
